American English Language Institute courses in Prague

The American English Language Institute (AELI) is the English language instruction division of the International Leadership Institute (ILI). Instruction in American English as a second language has been a key ILI offering since 1991, when we welcomed our first students from Germany and Czechoslovakia to the American English Language Immersion Program in the United States.

At AELI, we work with people of all ages and levels of language skills, helping them improve their fluency in American English. We take a wholistic immersion approach, enveloping the student in English, to help him or her become comfortable in expressing thoughts and ideas in English.

AELI courses in Prague are designed to help participants gain fluency in American English as it is used in specialized work, academic or social settings. Each course focuses on the particular vocabulary and cultural context of one of these settings.

  • All AELI courses include an evaluation of current level of English-language skills, on-going evaluations of learning, and an end-of-course evaluation and recommendation. Lessons can be delivered either in group settings or to individuals; the hours and location of meetings are flexible and can be adjusted according to the needs and wishes of the students and teacher. Courses are given on a semester or lesson-by-lesson basis, using materials that we have developed over 20 years of experience in teaching English, both to native and non-native speakers. Significant discounts apply to pre-paid semester courses.

English for Social Occasions offers conversational English lessons to develop flexibility and ease in the speaking of English in informal settings.

Less emphasis is placed on reading and writing than on developing verbal fluency.

The ideal student for this course has basic competence in English grammar, sentence construction, and vocabulary, but is not fully fluent in casual conversation with native English speakers.

English in the Workplace is tailored for business clients who already have basic English skills and need to develop vocabulary and fluency for use in their place of employment.

Emphasis is on speaking English, as well as writing and reading for business purposes.

Vocabulary is tailored for the specific needs of the business, such as financial services, technical and IT firms, sales, human resource development divisions, and general business management.

English for Academic Purposes provides advanced academic English language instruction for success in an English-speaking secondary or university setting. Reading and writing in academic settings is emphasized in these courses.

Would you like to go to an American college or university?

AELI is offering preparation courses for the standardized tests that are most often required for entry into an American college or university:
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
  • SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test, the general test and the subject tests)
  • GRE (for admission to liberal arts and sciences graduate school)
  • GMAT (for admission to graduate business school)
  • LSAT (for admission to law school)

With 25 years of experience in American higher education, we can help you in the application process, which is complicated and lengthy, for gaining admission to an American college or university. Not only will you need to make competitive scores on these standardized tests, you must write an outstanding application essay, gather the appropriate recommendations, meet tight deadlines, and prove your financial resources (necessary to obtain a visa). We can help you in all these steps.
